My slideshow introduction to TiddlyWiki
On Tuesday I created a PowerPoint slideshow to introduce TiddlyWiki. I did this to prepare for our home service, where I hope to give this presentation at least once or twice, possibly more.
So I posted the first version yesterday (Weds) to slideshare.net and mentioned it at the TiddlyWiki Google group. In one day it was viewed 68 times and was translated into Portuguese! I offer a link to a slightly revised version here for those who don’t know much about TiddlyWiki. Blessings!

Dave, I really like your slideshow and the wiki you prepared. I’d really like to put it to use for me, but I can’t figure out how to get it to save. Every time I make a change it tells me that the change couldn’t save, the save changes link doesn’t work (same error message), and everything is lost when I close. It says that I’ve either got an Internet Explorer misconfiguration, I’ve got illegal characters in the path name (\\C:\Wiki\tiddlydu2.htm), or it gives me a message saying that it wasn’t a valid tiddlywiki. I’m perplexed by this and would appreciate it if you could direct me toward a Q&A or support or someone who might be able to shed light on this issue.
Thanks a bunch,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
The slideshow mentions the Google Group. The people there would be the best ones to help you out of your problems.
Their link is
http://groups.google.com/group/TiddlyWiki
Sounds like you are not saving changes in the proper way. You should probably explain to the people at the Google group exactly how you are trying to save changes.
Blessings,
Dave Gifford

I’m with Andrew. I’ve been to the Google group and it wasn’t all that helpful. After trying multiple suggestions – all without much luck – the basic response is “Use Firefox.”
1) That’s a workaround, not an actual solution, since now you require yet another app to run what is basically an HTML file, and 2) FF isn’t always an option, particularly if you want to use the file at work.
Neither TiddlyWiki nor the GTD version will save if you downloaded it via IE. If you download it via FF and then try to use it in IE, GTDTiddly will save (most of the time) but the Save script in TiddlyWiki will freeze first your browser and then – in most cases – your PC.
It’s just not IE-friendly no matter what anyone likes to claim, and it’d be nice if they’d just bit the bullet and admit it.

Hmmm…
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with TW using IE. My understanding was that IE 7 was much more compatible with TW but maybe it’s not so much since the recent TW updates. I wish I had time to check on that. Maybe I will just have to MAKE time. Also sorry you got no help at the Google group – usually they are very good at helping new people…

http://monkeygtd.tiddlyspot.com/ is a good Todo.
The Dashboard is good.
You can click on the calendar to make a reminder.

Hi joDoe,
Yes, my Australian friend Simon Baird has created the monkeyGTD which is also a great to-do TW, especially if you buy into the GTD system. I like his new version at http://mgtd-alpha.tiddlyspot.com/ better than the original, and experimented with it before finally deciding to create my TiddlyDu2 which fits my style a little better. I’m on the verge of adding an improvement on TiddlyDu2, hopefully in the next day or so.

Hey Dave!
Thanks for your info – I will take a closer look later. Was looking for a Web based Action Item list.
I noticed the biblical content on your presentation and Kevin VanHoozer’s name – do you know him? He was a prof at TEDS when I attended there a long time back

Hi Bruce
Kevin Vanhoozer pops up in my BibblyWiki – I have the book that shows up there. But I don’t know him personally. You can find several Getting Things Done versions of TiddlyWiki (google GTD TiddlyWiki, D3, and MonkeyGTD. I recently started tinkering around with one for fun – see http://www.giffmex.org/giffmexgtd.html for a rough draft I started.

Hi Dave, This was a really well-designed how-to slideshow, one of the best I’ve ever seen. Thanks for providing it, I’m sure it was a lot of work.–becky

I ran into the “won’t save” issue on IE also. I found some info in a Tiddler that said to right click the html file (in explorer), select properties, and then click the “Unblock” button at the bottom of the properties box.
It worked for me. It looks like you have to do this before you double click to open the html file.
The tiddler is “ServicePack2Problems” by Jeremy Ruston and here’s a snippet:
The solution is to right-click on the TiddlyWiki html file and choose Properties. If the file is blocked, you’ll see an ‘Unblock’ button on the resulting property sheet that removes the protection and allows the file to open in the ‘My Computer’ zone. Then open the file in Internet Explorer – it might put up its information bar asking you whether you want to run it. You need to ‘Allow blocked content’ to let TiddlyWiki do its stuff.
Hope this helps!

Firefox is available in a portable version
try http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
and then you can use it at work.

Hola desde España. Empleo el español para felicitar a los Gifford por su excelente trabajo en la exposición y explicación de las posibilidades de Tiddly. Me voy convenciendo.
