Our Praise Notes and Prayer Requests for August 2008
- Praise the Lord that we are finally settled in. The first couple weeks were rough at times - some days it seemed everything was going wrong! But we are past all that now, and quite busy with ministry.
- Praise the Lord for a great time with the Ridgewood CRC service and learning team. They did construction work at Getsemani church in Xochimilco, and did a great job. They also got to see the pyramids, downtown Mexico City, and the gondola boats in Xochimilco. Photos here.
- Last month we mentioned trips to Acapulco, Cuernavaca and Cozumel. Dave decided not to accompany the youth to Cozumel, but preached in Cuernavaca to the youth who were headed there. Acapulco also got cancelled, and the church retreat was held in Veracruz. Praise the Lord for a good time of fun, fellowship, reconnecting with church members, and planning for Vacation Bible School. - Dave had a car accident on the way home from Cuernavaca. He rear-ended a taxi. Please pray for the taxi's passenger. She was taken on a stretcher by ambulance to the hospital. She was complaining of minor neck pain. Praise the Lord no one was hurt any worse than that. Praise also that both vehicles had only minor scratches, and that the taxi driver, the police and the insurance adjustors were friendly, understanding and cordial.
- Please pray for Daniel and Alexandra's transfer documents to get processed by Jenison Christian School and arrive in time for them to begin classes on time in mid-August. Transfer documents are official report cards accepted between the USA and Mexico, and the Mexican government is requiring us to provide those this time around. They didn't need anything like this 3 years ago when we first arrived, so this was a surprise for us.
- Now that we are finally settled in again, we need to look for a new place to live. Our landlord just told us that he intends to sell the colorful condo where we have lived for the 3 years. Since we are not in a position to buy it, we will have until December to find another place to live. Please pray that the Lord will provide just the right place for us.
- Please pray for Blanca as she helps organize the Vacation Bible School at the Jesus el Salvador church the first week of August. Daniel will be helping her, and Alexandra has called to invite a number of her friends.
- Praise the Lord for a good response at the Central presbytery meeting on July 18. Dave was able to get contact information for all the pastors and obreros, and has added this info to a pastor's directory for the RPC (the directory is a newly-begun work in progress). He also presented his new responsibilities and the resulting opportunities for them, and soon hopes to receive suggestions and invitations to give conferences. Dave is planning to pay a visit to the Emanuel presbytery in September to do the same, and in the meantime hopes to contact the other presbyteries by phone. Please pray for good results.
- Pray for Dave as he prepares his seminary courses for the new semester and inventories the seminary library.
- Please pray for good relations between the USA and Mexico as both nations' economies suffer, and as elections potentially re-ignite the sensitive immigration issue.
